Focus Group Opportunity in Fairbanks, AK

Synopsis: The Tribal Law and Policy Institute, in conjunction with the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), the National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) and the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), are working on a Tribal Resource Mapping Project for AI/AN victims/survivors.

TLPI will conduct an Alaska-specific focus group for the Tribal Resource Mapping Project:

Time: 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Location: The Yukon Room at the Westmark Hotel

Project Goal: To create a web-based resource mapping tool that

1. Links AI/AN victims/survivors of crime and abuse to tribal victim services anywhere in the country

2. Helps identify gaps in the network of existing services

Our Plan: We’ve been working with tribal stakeholders to develop the mapping tool and identify crime victim services available to AI/AN people. We will use the information gathered from stakeholders to develop an online resource mapping tool. Because the needs of Alaska Natives are so unique, and the physical distance between Alaska tribal governments and the lower 48 is so great, we want to seek focused input from Alaska Natives, rural and urban, to make sure the Tribal Resource Mapping Project will produce a mapping tool that meets the needs of Alaska Natives.We are seeking participation from Alaska Native individuals that have experience in the following categories of organizations—either as professional staff or clients. • Homeless Services• Native Youth Services • Two-Spirit Programs or Services• Native Education Programs• Native Health Services • Victim Advocates Groups or Services• Native Men’s Groups or Programs• Native Women’s Group or Programs• Native Foster Services or Programs• Rural Villages Programs or Services
